Tuesday Grounding

Today is Tuesday the 6th of May and i have with intention started my day differently than usual.
After the kids left for school I decided to catch up with my Barre class straight away, as I knew I would not be able to attend the live session today. Oh, how I regretted it during the session! The burn was real; my muscles told me I couldn’t go further, and at times, my mind believed it. But hey, I showed up, I kept going, I did reset at times but most importantly reflecting on it, I did enjoy that workout, especially the feeling of achievement after.
Next, I made my morning coffee. And yes, I don't drink my coffee first thing in the morning. For two reasons, there have been reports that having caffeine first thing is counter productive for your energy levels and secondly I drink a "spice tea" first. A mix of several spices, a home made blend which help me with my cycle and symptoms around my period. And there was a glimmer and a small thought:
Drink your coffee outside.
Barefoot.
On the grass.
The morning was lovely, so there was no second thought about this. It was still a bit chilly so I put another layer on and I found myself with my coffee in my hand standing on the grass. I stood there for however long it took me to drink my coffee. I had no watch or phone on me. There was no time limit. I just was there in the moment.
And here is what I observed:
I could hear some road or building works in the distance. Bird songs - I tried to pay attention and I think I could make out 5 different bird songs. I could hear a bee buzzing by, the leaves swaying in the wind. Bird flying by and squirrels chasing about.
I could see sunshine and how the rays made their way through the leaves of the trees and bushes. I saw a blue tit, blackbirds and a robin (I did say Hi! to my mum), two squirrels, flies and a bumble bee.
The smell: OMG! At first,

there was an overwhelming smell of flowers of the nearby blooming bush. But slowly I could make out my coffee and it smelled like a freshly baked cake. And to some point I could smell the soil too.
I could feel the grass and soil under my feet. The gentle, soft wind, the warm sunrays on my face. I could feel the hot at first but slowly cooling down coffee.
But there was something else I felt:
Calmness, I felt at ease.
I felt comfortable with myself.
I felt that I belong in the here and now.
I felt present, for myself.
I felt grounded.
Grounding is such a simple yet effective way to reduce stress and to bring calmness to our busy lives. Why not try it yourself, standing barefoot outside for a moment and be mindful with your surroundings and yourself. Take a little time out.
PS: If you like to find out about the Barre class or anything else I've touched on, please get in touch.
